Welcome Fifth Grade Teacher, Sophie Morel!

Sophie Morel moved to Anderson four years ago when she began studying at Anderson University. While studying, she fell in love with her husband, Ian Morel, and the Anderson community. Sophie studied education, literature, and film for fun in college, and she graduated in 2023 with a Bachelors in History. After she completed her degree, she began working here at New Covenant School as a kindergarten aid and school librarian. She has experience working in youth ministry with 5-6th graders and has volunteered in all areas of children's ministry. While working at New Covenant School, Sophie fell in love with the grammar school age group.

Sophie is passionate about cultivating curiosity and a love of learning and literature. She firmly believes learning should engage all aspects of a student’s development, and that every facet of education creates space for lessons about loving God and our neighbors.  

In her free time Sophie volunteers with kids at the LOT Project’s artisan gardens, reads, thrifts, and enjoys cooking new foods with friends. She is always open to book or salsa recipe recommendations. Sophie’s favorite children’s novel is Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin.
