Senior Story-Hadley Johnson

My name is Hadley Johnson and I have been at New Covenant School for five years. I came as a part-time student in the 8th grade and before then I was homeschooled. I first attended the school as a full-time student in the 9th grade and have been full time since then. My years at New Covenant have been a huge blessing to me. During this time I was taught how to love learning. New Covenant offers an education that is not easily found today. The fact that there is a school like this in Anderson, (of all places) has been a huge blessing to me. New Covenant School isn’t just concerned about what I’m learning between the ages of 5 and 18 but what I am learning and doing for the rest of my life. New Covenant focuses on cultivating the whole person for their whole life. Because of this focus, I have not only been taught how to learn, but also taught to love learning. I’ve been instructed in much more than just math, science and english. In Rhetoric, I have learned the art of persuasion but Mr VanFossen has also taught me how to apply deep truths in my day to day life using examples of him trying to do the same in his own life. Mr Barton not only helped spark my love for literature through books like Phantastes and the Faerie Queene but has also fed that flame in me, even after I was no longer in his class. He gives me reading recommendations and lets me borrow books. Everything that everyone does here is to invest in the students who attend. I have not only been educated for the sake of a job but also so that I will continue that education on my own and share it with others. I feel prepared to enter society and learn new things in this next stage of life thanks to New Covenant. It has invested in me and all the other students in a way that will pay out immensely in years and years to come. Speaking of years to come, I will be attending Greenville Technical College next year to get my cosmetology certificate so that I can turn around and serve others like the school served me. I am constantly thanking God for the opportunity He has given me to come here. I am positive that the education I have received will impact my entire life. I will not stop learning when I finish my cosmetology certificate. I will continue to pursue knowledge and read books and learn new things because that is what I was taught to do and that is what I have grown to love. I am blessed by God and extremely thankful for New Covenant School.
