Welcome to the July Update for NCS!
Summer is heating up and we are gearing up for August!
We hope all of our families are having a fun and blessed summer! We have been busy and we want our families to know what is going on around our school, so below are some updates.
Please be in prayer for Mrs. Alisa Lamb and Mrs. Liz Pearson as they both lost their mothers this summer.
Also please be in prayer for Mrs. Brandi Hallmark who has been diagnoses with cancer. She has surgery August 1st and a treatment plan will be decided 4 to 5 days after her surgery.
- Supply Lists – Have you received your supply list? If not, you can find the lists here.
- Facebook – New to the school? Have you liked us on Facebook or Instagram? This is a great way to keep up with things going on at NCS!
- All of our faculty will be switching over to email addresses that end with @newcovschool.net. Most faculty will have first initial, last name @newcovschool.net.
- Mr. Canney’s new email is email@example.com.
There is a lot going on this summer! We are adding a new Kindergarten class, moving our 5th grade classroom, converting an existing room into a classroom, and renovating some other rooms.
With so much to do, we need help! Would you be willing to help out with a New Covenant School Work Day on July 28th from 9:00 AM until Noon? If so, please let Mr. Canney know! Email him at firstname.lastname@example.org
Back to School Night
Save the Dates – Back to School Night is coming up on Monday, August 20 at 6:00 pm. Dinner will be provided and this is an event for the whole family. First Day of School will be Wednesday, August 22!

David Keese – Board Development
Rob Wright – new member

Have a great rest of your summer!

Andy grew up in Anderson attending New Covenant Church. He graduated in 2007 from Covenant College with a degree in Business Marketing and Management. Andy and his wife Bailey have been married nine years and have three children, Drew and Jackson, at NCS in first grade and K-5, and one-year-old Clara, the rowdy one of the group.
Andy is a partner at Palmetto Insurance and over the past 11 years he has managed insurance programs for businesses and organizations. Please join us in welcoming Andy as he serves on the New Covenant School Board! And stay tuned as we announce our other three new Board members.
On May 25th New Covenant School held its annual commencement exercises for the graduating class of 2018. It was a blessed celebration which featured a time of singing worship songs to give the Lord thanks for His goodness and kindness to our graduates, words of encouragement from our commencement speaker, the Reverend Patrick ‘Coach’ Miller, and of course the issuing of diplomas.
The 2018 graduation ceremony was the 12th in New Covenant’s history and brings our total number of graduates to 59. Praise the Lord! Please enjoy the pictures below from our ceremony and celebration courtesy of Erin Drago Photography.
New Covenant School has added another great teacher to our faculty, this time adding Mrs. Kayla Gibson! Mrs. Gibson has been hired to teach one of our K3 classes.
Kayla is joining us from Cameron, North Carolina. She has a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She has taught in the public schools, home-schooled her five lovely daughters, and most recently taught in a 3 year old preschool class.
Her husband of 29 years, Tim Gibson, is working with Wilderness Way Girls Camp School as the Family/Social worker. They will be living in Fair Play near the camp.
Mrs. Gibson is excited to become a part of the New Covenant School family working along with the staff, parents, and students to have a wonderful new school year.
Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Gibson to our school!
New Covenant is delighted to announce that we have hired Mrs. Kayla Sanders to teach 5th grade for the 2018-2019 school year.
Mrs. Sanders is a native to South Carolina, growing up in the Starr-Iva community. Always knowing that she wanted to become a teacher, she went to Erskine College and majored in Elementary Education. Shortly after graduating, Mrs. Sanders enrolled at Southern Wesleyan University where she earned her Master’s in Elementary Education.
She joins the New Covenant faculty with ten years of experience teaching 4th grade and two years of experience as a Curriculum Coordinator in the public school system. She is excited about her new role of teaching 5th grade in a classical Christian school and being able to join families in a partnership to promote student learning in a Christ-centered environment.
Mrs. Sanders is married to Chad, and they have a six year old son that is in first grade at New Covenant. During her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, shopping, traveling, and working with the children’s ministry in her church.

New Covenant School is thrilled to announce we have hired Miss Grace Hermesmann to teach 2nd grade for the 2018-2019 school year.
Miss Hermesmann is from Jobstown, New Jersey, and graduated from Grove City College (PA) with degrees in English and French. She first became intrigued by classical education during her undergraduate studies, where she spent time interning and volunteering at two different classical Christian schools. One of the schools, Grove City Christian Academy, is led by Mr. Sidney Henriquez, a good friend of our own Headmaster, Mr. Canney.
Grace will be new to South Carolina and is eager to begin exploring the South after marrying her fiancé, Joseph, this August! Grace is a lover of learning, and has a heart for seeing young students grow into pursuers of truth. She looks forward to jumping into this process with New Covenant’s second graders this school year. In her leisure time, Grace enjoys having a cup of tea and reading a good book. She also loves to write, sing hymns, bike, exercise, and spend time outdoors!
Please join us in welcoming Miss Hermesmann (soon to be Mrs. Swanson =) to our school staff!
Welcome to the June Update for NCS!
Summer is here! Yet we are already gearing up for August!
Our enrollment is looking very strong as get in to June. Here is a breakdown…
- Preschool currently has 51 students enrolled. We would love a few more K4 and K3 students for the 5 day a week classes!
- The Grammar School currently has 90 students enrolled. This includes 20 Kindergarten students! Praise God! We would love some more K5 students and there are a few seats open in other grades!
- The Logic and Rhetoric Schools (6th – 12th) currently have 69 students enrolled. We have open seats in each grade and we have had a consistent interest from prospective families over the summer. Pray that we would add just the right students and families!
While our enrollment is strong, we would love to add more students. Please help us spread the word that seats are still available!
NCS Faculty Update
The Lord has truly blessed us with some outstanding new faculty. We are wrapping things up for 2nd and 5th grades. Watch for official announcements coming soon.
Jodie Hawthorne is already proving to be a great asset to our school. Please let others know about this wonderful development at our school.
Sid Stewart and myself will be meeting with a consultant for classical Christian schools to brainstorm how we can better market New Covenant. We already have some neat projects in the works. Stay tuned!
All of our faculty will be switching over to email addresses that end with @newcovschool.net. Most faculty will have first initial, last name @newcovschool.net.
Mr. Canney’s new email is email@example.com.
Every year we look to improve our security. We are happy to report that this summer NCS has purchased 22 four channel Motorola walkie-talkies. This addresses our most pressing concern for our school, which was communication.
As we look to build upon the success of our basketball and cross country programs, we are adding a volleyball team this fall! Girls in 6th through 12th are eligible. Also, homeschool students can play as long as they take at least one class with us. Please help spread the word!
To help with the cost of launching a team, the volleyball program is hosting a yard sale this Saturday June 16th from 6:00 AM until 11:00 AM at 120 Ridgeway Trail. More info here!
The summer schedule is upon us! The school office is open Monday through Thursday 8:30 to 3:30. The office is closed on Fridays.
Summer Work Day
There is A LOT that needs done over the summer. We will be organizing a work day in July. More info to come! If you are interested and able please email Mr. Canney to let him know!
