Ella Milford and Aidan Graves Nominated Palmetto State Delegates

The American Legion’s Boys and Girls State programs are a unique way for young men and women to learn about the American system of government and politics by participating in a mock governmental system.

It is an honor to be chosen as a delegate to Palmetto Boys State. More than 1,000 rising seniors are nominated each year by their high school teachers and counselors to be delegates or “citizens” at Boys State. Those nominated are then interviewed and selected by the local American Legion Post.  We consider the program to be as much leadership training as it is an opportunity to learn about and participate in government and politics.  In fact, many of our state’s political, business, and community leaders attended Boys State.

Palmetto Girls State is a one-week leadership and citizenship training program, created to educate outstanding high school students about state and local government and citizenship. Girls attending Palmetto Girls State experience governmental procedure by simulating political campaigns, elections, and the political process. They also learn about the principles of citizenship and public service from guest speakers, expert panels and staff members.

In their years here at New Covenant School, Ella Milford and Aidan Graves have developed and demonstrated the kind of academic excellence and student leadership that has set them apart and made them ideal Girls and Boys State delegates respectively. We are very pleased to have Ella and Aidan represent New Covenant School this year.
