Lady Cavs Begin Exciting Fifth Season!

The Lady Cavalier basketball program is excited to begin their fifth season of competition! It looks to be an exciting year on the court as the Lady Cavaliers have a record 22 girls in the program (grades 6th - 12th). The school will have two girls teams this season; a varsity team and a younger team which will be made up of mainly middle school students but will compete at the JV level.

For the varsity squad, the Lady Cavaliers have six players returning from last year’s Region Champs and State Runner Up team. The returning players will be lead by senior Captain Kaitlin Curnow, who will once again handle point guard duties. Junior Wren Sconyers, who lead the Lady Cavs in scoring last year (8.9 points per game) will join Kaitlin to serve as co-Captain. Other key returners for the girls team will be senior Chloe Curnow, sophomore Lily Wickiser (6.3 points per game a season ago), junior Olivia Milford, and sophomore Ella Milford.

The Lady Cavs varsity team will have some newcomers who will be counted on to play key roles. The new varsity players are freshmen Emma Jordan, Madeline McClure, and Zhenya Truman, along with eighth graders Bella Jordan and Hadley Johnson, and seventh graders Virginia Wickiser and Addison Canney. The Lady Cavs are looking to build on the successes from previous seasons by playing an up-tempo style of basketball that will have everybody playing and be a lot of fun to watch!

The JV team will be lead by 8th grader Lauren Landis and 7th graders Addison Canney and Virginia Wickiser. All three were key contributors last season. Also looking to play a key role for the younger team will be eighth graders Hadley Johnson and Hannah Mathews, who are both new to the program this season. The most exciting development for the younger team is the addition of SEVEN sixth graders! They include Anna Grace Jachens, Delilah Doster, Kate Moore, Stephanie Landis, Cadence Nelson, Charis Nelson, and Caitlyn Buczko.

The Lady Cavalier program will once again be lead by Coach Joe Canney (47-27 record at NCS). He will be assisted by Coach Molly Landis (varsity assistant and JV head coach), Coach Pete Landis (assistant coach), and statistician Rachel Lopez.

It looks to be an exciting year for the Lady Cavs! Be sure to catch them in action this season!
