New Covenant School is excited to announce that Mr. Sid Stewart has joined our staff as the Director of Community Relations. Mr. Stewart is the former Executive Director of Haven of Rest Ministries here in Anderson. Mr. Stewart has been brought on board to help further our mission of “presenting our students complete in Christ” by seeking to build bridges and partnerships with those in the community who believe in New Covenant and see it as a vital Kingdom building ministry.
Mr. Stewart was born in Greenville, SC and grew up on his grandparent’s farm with his mother because his father died when he was only 9 months old. Sid went on to graduate from Pendleton High School, then attended Clemson University before graduating from Anderson College (now Anderson University). Mr. Stewart entered full time ministry in 1989 and served as a Minister of Education on church staff for 9 years.
In August of 1998 Mr. Stewart was hired by the Haven of Rest with the purpose of establishing long term, Christ centered, and Bible based programs designed to help men and women with life dominating problems get out of the state of life they were in.
Thanks to the ministry of the Haven, many lives have been affected and changed to the glory of God. Many men and women have been restored to their families, have received good jobs, and become productive citizens by working with Tech Schools, Colleges and Universities in the Anderson area.
Professionally, Mr. Stewart was recognized as the Non-Profit Director of the Year in 2012 by the Chamber of Commerce. During his tenure several capital improvements were made at the Haven:
- A distribution center was added.
- They increased the thrift stores from three to eight.
- An appliance repair center was added.
- A new dorm was built located on the Men’s Training Center.
- They bought and remodeled a second women’s home.
- They purchased a transition home.
Some additional accomplishments of Mr. Stewart at the Haven were…
- The budget grew from $650,000 (1998) to $3,000,000 (2015).
- They increased the work force from 25 to 75.
- They became a member of Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA)
On January 1, 2016 Mr. Stewart semi-retired and worked part time in donor development and teaching in the programs. He served as Director Emeritus from that time until June 30, 2017.
Mr. Stewart has been married to his beautiful wife Sandy since 1971 and they have three wonderful children, along with two granddaughters. In his spare time, Sid enjoys trout fishing and bluegrass music.
