The New Covenant Boys and Girls basketball teams both secured wins against Easley Christian on Tuesday night as their respective strong seasons continue to march forward.
The New Covenant boys had a strong showing on both offense and defense as they defeated Easley by a score of 68 to 40. With the win the Cavaliers improve their overall record to 12-3 while also moving to 5-2 in the South Carolina Association of Christian School (SCACS) 1A Region I. The Cavaliers have one remaining Region I game on Thursday at Tabernacle Christian. Regardless of whether they win or lose, the New Covenant boys have locked up second place in Region 1A meaning they will host a quarterfinal game on Friday, February 9th with the chance to go to the SCACS 1A State Tournament (2/15 and 2/16 at Grace Christian School in Columbia) with a win.
Meanwhile, the Lady Cavs also had a strong game against the Easley Eagles. New Covenant raced out to a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 38-0 through three quarters. With the 46-8 victory the Lady Cavs improved to 13-2 on the season and clinched their second straight SCACS 1A Region I championship with a perfect 6-0 record. Now the Lady Cavs are waiting to hear if they will have a quarterfinal game on Thursday, February 8th or if they will get a bye to the SCACS State Tournament (2/15 and 2/16 at Grace Christian School in Columbia).
Next up for the Cavaliers will be the boys traveling to Tabernacle on Thursday for their final 1A Region I game and the girls traveling to Abbeville to take on rival Lighthouse in a non-Region match-up.
