Varsity Girls Basketball – GOING TO STATE!

Our varsity girls basketball team, under the leadership of Coach Joe Canney, has qualified to compete in the South Carolina Association of Christian School (SCACS) annual state championship tournament. The girls team finished the season with an overall record of 8-10, but most importantly were crowned SCACS 1A champions for Region 1 by compiling a 4-2 conference record. With their first place finish, the Lady Cavs earned a bye into the state tournament which will begin February 16th at Grace Christian School in Columbia, SC.

This is the second season that New Covenant School has had a varsity girls team. Despite returning only 6 girls and losing their top 3 scorers from last year’s squad, this year’s team still tackled the toughest schedule in SCACS 1A. This season they faced the defending SCACS 2A champion twice, the defending SCACS 1A champion 3 times and Easley Homeschool twice, a perennial homeschool power. In addition to these games, they matched up against larger 2A schools for another four games.

These challenging games along with the hard work from all 16 girls in the New Covenant program have prepared them to compete in the school’s first ever chance to play for a state championship!
