I’m truly excited about the upcoming season for boys and girls basketball at New Covenant School. I look forward to working with you and your children as we launch this inaugural season/program, and am confident we will all look back on this season as a very positive step forward.
Dear New Covenant Parents,
Try-outs will begin next Monday and Tuesday, November 2nd and 3rd from 6-7pm for JV/Middle School players (6-9th grade) and 7-8 for varsity aged boys and all Cavs football players. I am aware that some may be out of town on Monday, but do not let that concern you. I am not aware of too many outside players that will be trying out, and having coached most of your boys, am familiar with their ability and skill set.
For the boys that do make the team, we will have a parent/player meeting beginning promptly at 6:00 pm (JV) and 7:00 pm(Varsity) on Thursday evening to spell out the details about the season as well as team goals and expectations.
There have been questions about a few details that I wanted to make you aware of up front.
* There will be two boys teams; Varsity and JV/Middle School. The ages for Varsity will be 8-12 and for JV/Middle School, 6-9. That means that there will be some overlap for boys in the middle. Some private schools have only a JV (7-10) grade and some only a Middle School team (6-8). Some of our boys will float between JV and Varsity, and some will float between Middle School and JV. We will discuss this at the player/parent meeting.
* JV/Middle School will practice from 6-7 after try-outs and Varsity will practice from 7-8:30. Floating players will be assigned one or the other practice to attend. Both JV and Varsity will be running the same offenses and defenses so there will not be a gap in what they are learning.
I know there are plenty of other questions which I would like to take up in our player/parent meeting. If you have questions that need an answer before try-outs, please feel free to email me at email@example.com or call at 864-328-4007. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks, and I look forward to getting started soon!
